Eternal Flame

Goeppertia crocata 'Tassmania'

in 14cm Calm Ocean Pot

Loves for its stunning orange flowers, Goeppertia crocata flowers at the start of each growing season, and stays in bloom for 2-3 months.

Even when flowering is finished, the rich green leaves have a metalic sheen and deep red undersides making for a very impressive display and a great visual contrast against other foliage plants in your collection.

Although all Prayer Plants flower, not all will do so indoors, and very few do so as prolifically and impressively as Goeppertia crocata.

In it's native environment in the rainforest floors of Brazil, it's accustomed to filtered light, high humidity and moist but free draining earth.

The accepted botanical name is Goeppertia crocata 'Tassmania'', but is also often referred to as Calathea crocata. It's commonly known as Eternal Flame, Tassmania Prayer Plant.

Find the Right Spot

The most important aspect to the health of any house plant is finding a spot which meets it’s basic needs for light, temperature and water.

Perfecting the environment and ensuring long-term care needs are met will take your plant from surviving to thriving.

Read through these care instructions for Goeppertia crocata 'Tassmania'' (aka Calathea crocata), and remember if you need help, we’re an email away.

Ongoing Care

Feed monthly throughout the growing season with an organic plant food.

Like all Prayer Plants, keep away from prolonged or intense exposure to the sun. Ideal conditions are bright indirect light, though it will tolerate some shade at the expense of slower growth and fewer flowers.

Water & Humidity

Never let the soil dry completely, but be sure it's never standing in water or that the compost is permenantly soggy. Allow the soil to dry enough for some oxygen to reach the roots.

Prayer Plants are tropical jungle plants, so low temperatures can be really bad for them. Try to keep temperatures above 15ºC throughout the growing season. When the plant is dormant over winter, night time temperatures should be no lower than 12ºC.

With tougher leaves than some other Prayer Plants, Goeppertia crocata is a bit less fussy than its cousins. As a tropical, you need to make sure you understand how and when to water.

All members of the Marantaceae family are non-toxic to pets and people.
